What exactly do you do?
I help small business owners understand AI through three one-on-one conversations. We talk about what AI is, what it can do for your specific business, address your concerns, and create a simple plan for what (if anything) you should do next. Think of it as having a knowledgeable friend explain AI to you — no sales pitch, no jargon.
How much does AI consulting cost?
$300 for three one-hour sessions — that's $100 per hour. No hidden fees. No ongoing charges. No expensive software to buy. You pay once and get lasting clarity about AI for your business.
What's included in the three sessions?
Session 1: We assess where you are — your current tech comfort, what you've heard about AI, and what confuses you. Session 2: We address your specific questions and concerns head-on. Session 3: You leave with a clear, practical roadmap — usually 3-5 specific actions tailored to your business.
Can I just do one session?
The three-session package is designed to give you complete clarity. One session isn't enough time to properly understand your situation and give you useful guidance. That said, if after the first session you're not finding value, we can talk.
Do you sell software?
No. I don't sell software, and I don't receive commissions from any tools. My only interest is helping you understand AI clearly. If a tool would help your business, I'll tell you about it — but I have no financial stake in what you use.
Do you offer ongoing support?
The three-session package is designed to give you the clarity you need to move forward independently. If you need additional support later, we can discuss options, but most clients find the three sessions give them what they need.
Do I need to be technical?
Not at all. This service is specifically designed for non-technical business owners. If you can send an email and use your phone, you have all the technical skills you need. I explain everything in plain English.
What if my questions are too basic?
There are no basic questions. "What is ChatGPT?" is a perfectly valid starting point. So is "Why should I even care about AI?" Most of my clients have never used AI tools before we meet — that's exactly why they need this service.
What industries do you work with?
I work with any small business — manufacturing, retail, professional services, healthcare, construction, hospitality, and more. AI applications vary by industry, and I tailor my guidance to your specific situation.
How big (or small) does my business need to be?
I typically work with businesses that have 1-20 employees. Solopreneurs are welcome. If you're larger than that, we can still talk, but you might benefit more from a dedicated IT consultant.
Do you offer group training?
Currently, I focus on one-on-one consulting because every business has unique needs. Group training may be an option in the future — reach out if you're interested and I'll keep you posted.
How do we meet?
Your choice: phone call, video call (Zoom), or in person if you're near Hagerstown, MD. Most clients prefer video calls, but I'm flexible. Whatever feels most comfortable for you.
Can we meet in person?
Yes! I'm based in Hagerstown, MD and happy to meet locally — at your office, a coffee shop, or another convenient location. I also travel within the service area for in-person meetings.
How long are the sessions?
Each session is one hour. We keep things focused and efficient — no padding, no filler. Most clients find an hour is just right.
How far apart are the sessions?
Typically one week apart, but we can adjust based on your schedule. Some clients prefer to space them out more; others want to move faster. We'll find what works for you.
What do I need to prepare?
Nothing special. Just come with your questions and an open mind. It helps if you've thought about what confuses you most about AI, but even that's not required. We'll figure it out together.
How do I book a consultation?
You can book directly through my Calendly link, call me at (443) 531-7550, or email hello@southmountainconsultingai.com. I typically respond within 24 hours.
What AI tools will you teach me?
We'll cover the tools that make sense for your business — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and practical automation platforms. I don't push any specific tool. We figure out what's right for your situation.
Will AI replace my employees?
Probably not — at least not in the way you might fear. AI is better thought of as a tool that helps your team work more efficiently. We'll talk about realistic expectations and what AI can and can't do.
Am I already too late to start with AI?
No. The technology is still evolving, and there's plenty of time to get started. What matters is understanding the fundamentals and making smart decisions — not being first.
What if AI isn't right for my business?
Then I'll tell you that. Sometimes the honest answer is "This isn't worth your time right now." That's valuable information too — you'll stop worrying and focus on what matters.
What if I don't see results?
The goal of our sessions is clarity, not implementation. You'll leave understanding AI and knowing what to do next. Whether you act on that plan is up to you — but you'll have the knowledge to make informed decisions.
What areas do you serve?
I serve businesses within 150 miles of Hagerstown, MD. This includes Western Maryland, Frederick County, South-Central Pennsylvania (Chambersburg, Gettysburg), Eastern West Virginia (Martinsburg, Charles Town), and Northern Virginia (Winchester area). Video calls are available anywhere.
What if I'm in Pennsylvania or West Virginia?
I serve the tri-state area. Pennsylvania locations like Chambersburg, Gettysburg, and Waynesboro are all within my service area. Same with West Virginia — Martinsburg, Charles Town, and surrounding areas. We can meet in person or via video call.
Do you travel for in-person meetings?
Yes, within the service area. If you're in Frederick, Cumberland, Martinsburg, Chambersburg, or anywhere within about 150 miles of Hagerstown, I'm happy to come to you.
